Update for the 6s!
Update for the Grade 4s in my homeroom ONLY. Hope everyone who skied today is dry and warm! Read Week 2 complete! The students are getting better and better with our routines, which means we are accomplishing even more each day!
Please note: if you child is sick, it is their responsibility to acquire and complete any/all work missed while they are away. There is no school for students TOMORROW (January 22nd). Grade 4 - All students in my Math and LA class were given the morning to complete any unfinished work. Many students completed everything. Some students are bringing home a small amount of homework (think: colouring or 2-3 math questions). Others are bringing home a lot (think: more than 20 minutes). If your child falls into the last category please, have a conversation with them about using their class time more effectively (unless they've been sick). Read our Language Update. Grade 6 - Students have been participating in a Grammar-palooza with 2 of the Grade 6 classes at SES. Each group is being a taught a lesson, and being given practice work from a Language Arts teacher (myself, Ms. Storms, or Ms. Wilker). Please ask your child which grammar lesson they completed today. :) Read our Language Update. Today, the Grade 6 students were also given an opportunity to complete unfinished work. Most students are bringing home work - this is unrelated to classroom effort. There is just a lot of work! Hope you all enjoy your weekend! Ms. W. Wow! We did it! We survived our first week 'Back to School!' I am so pleased that so many of you have found your way here. I really hope you enjoy knowing what we are working on and find out how you can continue to practice our new skills at home. If you have any feedback, I truly welcome it, as this is a resource for you :) Most students have had a super week and are adjusting extremely well to having a new teacher in their classroom. I am looking forward to having all of our wrinkles ironed out :) Our week at a glance - This week, we focused on our new routines (ie. what to do when the students come in from recess) and expectations (ie. how to participate in our classroom discussions). These are definitely coming along! Each class has their strengths, and I am so pleased with the improvement I have seen over the course of the week.
In Math, we are wrapping up the unit that was started with Ms. Kinsman - 3D geometry. The grade 4s were working on naming, sorting and classifying shapes, and the grade 6s tried their hand at some 3 part problem solving! Both groups found the activities challenging, but I loved seeing the light bulbs go off! Please ask your child what they thought of the activity :) Both classes will be moving to measurement soon. In order to keep the blog concise and effective, I have created individual pages for each grade. I will hyperlink the text in my blog posts so that you can quickly see if an update applies to you (and your family) or not. I hope this helps! Update for Grade 4 Update for Grade 6 As always, if you have any feedback on the website, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Wishing you a restful weekend :) Ms. W. Hello to you!
I hope this blog post sees you well! I am currently getting ready to return to the classroom after a whirlwind leave away. In 2015, I welcomed my handsome son, Bruce, into the world, experienced some major health complications (that have since been resolved), and tried so so hard to enjoy every minute I was able to spend at home. It was a true character building experience :) I am making my official return to the classroom next Monday, January 11. My new year, also sees me to a new school! I will be joining the Stonecrest Elementary team - so, WEJ parents - this is our goodbye! Please feel free to unsubscribe. I'll try not to cry as I watch my email list dwindle. ;) It was an absolute pleasure to get to know so many of you, and I will truly miss seeing your smiling faces every day. To my new families, I am so excited to get back into the classroom and to join the Stonecrest team. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you over the next few months. Your children and I are going to learn so much from one another. I hope they enjoy their time in my classroom. Please feel free to connect as you wish :) So it's a NEW year, for sure! New year, new routine, new teacher, new classroom, new school, new, new, new! Here's to the NEW year. Warmly Yours (especially on this exceptionally chilly day!), Ms. W. |
