Other things of note:
A Message from Mrs. Armstrong, the Ski Day coordinator:
Tomorrow is scheduled to be our first ski day for grades 5-8. Currently the weather forecast may interfere with this. If the buses are cancelled for the OCDSB OR Renfrew County tomorrow then the ski trip will also be cancelled and it will be a regular school day (or snow day). Currently we are looking at alternative dates and will keep you posted as we get more information. Welcome to a brand new month!
We've made it through our transition to a new year! Here are some updates and memos for you:
Our community is saddened by the events of this past weekend and the tragic loss of life in Quebec City. As an expression of our support to the community of Ste-Foy, Quebec, flags on all OCDSB schools and buildings have been lowered to half-mast until the end of the day on Friday, February 3, 2017. We know that these kinds of events raise many challenging questions for all of us and especially for our students. Yesterday, we provided information to all of our principals to remind them of strategies to support students in dealing with tragic events. We wanted to share similar information with our parents and guardians to assist you in supporting your child at home. You can read the tip sheet for parents on our website. We are fortunate to live in a country that is a very welcoming and inclusive nation. At the OCDSB, we work every day to ensure that our schools, classrooms, hallways and playgrounds are safe and caring spaces for everyone. This week, we will need to work extra hard. As a school system, we have the responsibility and the opportunity to engage young people in a broader conversation about the importance of building a more inclusive society. Our work in promoting a positive school climate is a tremendous opportunity to plant and nurture the seeds of inclusion, respect, and compassion. Our schools, more than any public institution, have the responsibility and obligation to offer safe, caring and bias-free places to learn and work. If you have questions or concerns, or feel your child may require additional support, please contact the school principal. Thank you. Important dates:
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! -Ms. W. |
