Good morning families,
I hope that all are well, and dry. If your child is not able to attend today, please reply to this email (or send a new one), use the form on this page or call the school and let us know. As a follow up to my previous email, there are a few places information is being shared.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can help. Sincerely, Ms. W. , It is with a heavy heart that I am reaching out to all of you. I know many of you are being immediately affected by the flooding in Constance Bay, Fitzroy and possibly Greenland. (Unfortunately, I am not able to access the server to see addresses for the students, so I am not sure who is being affected.)
Please know that I am here to support you and your family however I can. If you're able to send off a quick email to let me know what you and/or the children need (i.e. food, dry socks, clean/dry loads of laundry etc), or if I should expect a change as you adjust to different living conditions, please share. If you're not able to, I understand. I am happy to provide whatever is necessary to maintain a sense of 'normal.' If I am needed to run errands for your family, I can meet you at the school, in Constance Bay or Carp in the morning (or sooner - please just email!). There are plans in place to be supporting the children at school - snacks, food, etc., and we will be striving to maintain a sense of calm and routine. Again, if there is anything I can do to help your family, please let me know as soon as you can. I will be wishing for dry basements for all of you! Sincerely, Ms. Wilson I hope everyone had a super duper March Break! I am happy to see the students returned looking fresh and rested :) We have already had a busy week with lots of new (because I heard Spring was coming?), and I thought it would be a great opportunity to update you about what is happening in class. Please remember that almost all of this is available on Google Classroom, which your child knows how to access.
A few updates about school based activities:
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me! I will do my best to email back as soon as I can. Happy Spring, everyone! Ms. W. *I forgot to hit "Post" on Friday, so I hope this makes it to everyone today!! What a week! :)
Hey everyone! I hope that everyone’s report cards finally made it home. Thank you so much for your patience. Please find a quick update about a few things that are happening in our class these days:
Other things of note:
A Message from Mrs. Armstrong, the Ski Day coordinator:
Tomorrow is scheduled to be our first ski day for grades 5-8. Currently the weather forecast may interfere with this. If the buses are cancelled for the OCDSB OR Renfrew County tomorrow then the ski trip will also be cancelled and it will be a regular school day (or snow day). Currently we are looking at alternative dates and will keep you posted as we get more information. Welcome to a brand new month!
We've made it through our transition to a new year! Here are some updates and memos for you:
Our community is saddened by the events of this past weekend and the tragic loss of life in Quebec City. As an expression of our support to the community of Ste-Foy, Quebec, flags on all OCDSB schools and buildings have been lowered to half-mast until the end of the day on Friday, February 3, 2017. We know that these kinds of events raise many challenging questions for all of us and especially for our students. Yesterday, we provided information to all of our principals to remind them of strategies to support students in dealing with tragic events. We wanted to share similar information with our parents and guardians to assist you in supporting your child at home. You can read the tip sheet for parents on our website. We are fortunate to live in a country that is a very welcoming and inclusive nation. At the OCDSB, we work every day to ensure that our schools, classrooms, hallways and playgrounds are safe and caring spaces for everyone. This week, we will need to work extra hard. As a school system, we have the responsibility and the opportunity to engage young people in a broader conversation about the importance of building a more inclusive society. Our work in promoting a positive school climate is a tremendous opportunity to plant and nurture the seeds of inclusion, respect, and compassion. Our schools, more than any public institution, have the responsibility and obligation to offer safe, caring and bias-free places to learn and work. If you have questions or concerns, or feel your child may require additional support, please contact the school principal. Thank you. Important dates:
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! -Ms. W. Happy New Year everyone!
I am so happy to have everyone back! We have already jumped right into our usual routines. A few updates and changes for you to note:
Another PSA - Please help me to encourage proper handwashing with our students! It is the easiest way to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. Schools are very suseptible to having widespread illness when a virus hits (we hang out in pretty close quarters!). We had only 50% of the students in our class on the last day in December - many were away on vacation (lucky!), but at least 5 were home SICK! I know many families were hit hard with the Norovirus over the Winter Break, as well! I have disinfected our desks as best as I could (with school approved cleaning products), but please remember to keep your children home if they are sick. It is the school's policy to have students remain home until they are symptom free for 24hours. Also, I'd love a heads up to sanitize your child's desk if they are combatting a virus. I truly appreciate your cooperation in helping to prevent the spread of illness! Yours in health, Ms. W. I'll post piuTomorrow the students in our class (as well as many others) will be participating in a HUGE, AWESOME, FUN workshop called Mathletes! Please click HERE for more information!
Good morning!
I hope that everyone safely made it to where they needed to go! What a drive! A few updates:
Please let me know if you have any questions. Be safe out there :) -Ms. W. Tis the season where everyone begins to think about giving. I am so pleased to hear that Stonecrest has excellent traditions in place regarding raising funds for families in need. This year, the Snowsuit fund will be running from Monday, November 28th to Friday, December 2nd. "Elves" will be collecting monetary donations, and gifts of new or gently used "ready to wear" winter clothing. Green info sheets were sent home yesterday. Please look for these :)
Santa Seconds will also be happening this year. The date for shopping is December 7th. More information about this unique fundraising can be found HERE. This is also where you can re-print any volunteer forms that you may need. Please note the $10 maximum purchase request. A paper copy of this will be coming home today. For more information about either of these efforts, please do not hesitate to email me! -Ms. W. |
