Because Grade 4’s & 6's are at a very unique age, I am sending home 4 (yes, 4!) different orders. Each monthly flyer offers a unique selection of print and digital media for the students.
Arrow – This flyer is designed for the Junior level reader (4-5-6). These books are either at or above grade level reading expectations and include popular items like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Percy Jackson series, and 39 Clues.
The books in this publication are often labelled with GRL (Guided Reading Level – on an A-Z scale) or RL (grade level equivalent – each number represents the grade). In grade 4, your child should be reading at or above a GRL level of M (M-T is the range for Gr. 4), and a RL equivalent of 4 or higher. Please keep this in mind when ordering for your child. Here`s a link for more information.
Lucky – This should look familiar! This is the flyer for Grades 2 and 3. I am including this flyer for your children who may not be ready to read Junior level. You will notice a lot of repeat titles in this flyer, and again, I encourage you to check the reading levels when making selections. They occasionally have some real gems in here too.
Interactive Special – This flyer contains interactive media. This includes skill building audio CDs, DVDs, console games and more. This is an all-ages flyer so please keep that in mind when ordering. Ages are occasionally indicated in the description for the item.
Specials– This Special Issue flyer is for K-6 and is part of Scholastic’s new literacy initiative which is encouraging children to read for pleasure. The focus changes monthly and often includes classics and full sets of series (re: all of the Harry Potter books). The items in this publication are labeled with the target age categories.
I love ordering books for our class from Scholastic; the company is very education-oriented and provides many freebies for classrooms (stickers, bookmarks and sometimes books). The focus for the fall term will be adding additional reading material to our (hopefully) growing classroom library (Please send me an email if you have any grade level books that your child no longer is interested in [:)]) and encouraging the students to read appropriate books. Because I ask that all students have a book to read in class, this is a great opportunity to allow your child to choose a book that they will enjoy.
Don’t forget that you are able to order from all flyers and combine your payment (i.e. one cheque for each child/family I teach). Cheques can be made out to Scholastic Canada. Please do not send cash. Please email me if your family does not have cheques to arrange for payment. Feel free to print the order forms from the last page of the pdf, or send back the paper copy!
Each month I will sit with students and make recommendations based on interest and reading level. I encourage students to circle these and bring them home - this is the Ms. Wilson Recommended Reading list! You are welcome to purchase the books, put them on a class wishlist, or head to the Ottawa Public Library website and place a hold on it to pick up at your local branch. :)
